Trend Watch | Bathrooms In 2015

Last post, we talked about the design trends in kitchens for 2015, but we all know that the only other room that's used as much as the kitchen is a bathroom, so today we're talking about design trends in bathrooms for 2015.  Are you thinking of remodeling your bathroom?  If so, be sure to read through some of these key tips that will help your bathroom be as current as possible for the upcoming year!

First of all, when renovating your bathroom, you want to make sure that you come up with a style that flows with the rest of the house.  Keeping the look of the rest of the house is important, in general but especially in 2015.  You really want your bathroom to almost be an extension of the bedroom or living room or whatever room it's off of.  We discussed this with the kitchen as well--more of a furniture-piece style is on trend for 2015 in all of those work areas.

Beyond that, grout that stands out is going to be popular in 2015.  In the past, it's been about making the grout as minimal as possible--everyone wants to "make it disappear!"  But in 2015, selecting grout that is a contrasting color is actually going to be big!  By doing this, you can create some contrast and visual interest and accentuate the tile feature on the walls or floor.

We, as Americans, have gone through phases of bigger is better, smaller is better, and back again...and now we're back again...in the shower.  Bigger is better in showers in 2015, so if the shower is part of your renovation, see what can be done to increase the size.  Glass is in too!  Large panes of frameless glass make a bathroom feel luxurious, so go with the glass!

Keeping in line with the "furniture feel" that we discussed earlier, free-standing bathtubs are definitely going to be big in 2015.  These fixtures make for a cool architectural detail and contributes to a lot of the "spa feel" that we're trying to accomplish in 2015.  "Self-indulgence" is what it's all about and these free standing features give that feel.  There are all different types of free-standing tubs, though, so consider the shape of the tub when you're selecting it for the space.

Special floor tiles are big for bathrooms in 2015 too.  Gone are the days of square, white tiles--the floor needs it's own special spice too.  Colorful tile, tile that comes in a variety of shapes, contrasting grout (like we discussed earlier)--all of those things can make your floor an important detail in the design of your bathroom, so don't ignore it!

And finally, don't forget to add a little nature.  This has been trending in 2014 but it's not going anywhere anytime soon.  Plants or other natural materials will be key in contributing to a spa-like feel for your bathroom...and who doesn't want their bathroom to feel like a retreat?!

We can't wait to see how bathrooms evolve next year!  Be sure to share your photos and comments below so we can oOoooo and Ahhh over your beautiful bathroom designs!
